History Worth Preserving:

Bellmead's history dates back to 1910, when it was founded as a vital hub for the railroad. Over the years, it has evolved into a diverse community with deep roots. From its early days as a railyard settlement, Bellmead has continually adapted while retaining its unique character.

Historic Landmark Designation:

Several sites across the Bellmead area have been officially recognized as historic landmarks, ensuring their protection and maintenance for future generations.  One such location is Concord Cemetery, located on Bellmead's North East border with Texas State Technical College.

From Texas Historical Marker #18409

"In 1866 the Concord Baptist Church organized in the Concord community. Originally the Tehuacana Baptist Church, its name was changed in 1872. The first interments in the adjacent cemetery were Elizabeth Boddie Parrish and her triplets in November 1869. The cemetery is all that is left of the town of Concord, which once had a general store, cotton gin, school, and a church. Many veterans are interred on the grounds. Elija Goodnight (1831-1920) is considered the last veteran of the U.S.-Mexico War to be buried in Texas. According to the cemetery bylaws, one must be a direct descendant of a person buried at Concord in order to be interred on the grounds."

The Texas Treasure Business Award (TTBA) program is an initiative of the Community Heritage Division of the Texas Historical Commission.

"Created in 2005 by Senate Bill 920, authored by Sen. Leticia Van de Putte of San Antonio and sponsored by Rep. Charles "Doc” Anderson of Waco, the program pays tribute to the state’s well-established businesses and their exceptional historical contributions to communities across Texas.

Since 2005, over 500 Texas businesses have been honored for their historic significance, from well-known establishments like H.E.B. and Bill Miller BBQ to small town bakeries, florists, general stores, and many more."
