PUBLIC NUISANCES impact us all…
Just like not mowing the grass attracts snakes, mosquitoes, and rats, not maintaining property attracts all kinds of other bad stuff into the neighborhood. First, it’s just a broken window or an old washing machine. Before too long though, stuff starts to build up and it becomes a junk yard, or worse!
The City of Bellmead Code of Ordinances, Article III. – Garbage, Junk and Litter, states the following:
Sec. 13-31. - Declaration of nuisance.
(a) It shall be unlawful for any owner, lessee, occupant, or any person in charge of any premises in the city to allow brush, garbage, handbills, junk, or litter, as those terms are defined herein, to accumulate upon such premises to such an extent that:
(1) Is reasonably calculated to create a fire hazard,
(2) Is to be injurious to the health of the citizens of the city,
(3) Reduces the property values of adjacent and surrounding properties,
(4) Creates unsightly esthetics to the reasonable person, or
(5) Creates breeding and living places for insects and rodents as defined in article VI.
Your City of Bellmead Code Enforcement officials are actively working to enforce regulations about cutting the grass and will also begin attacking the issue of public nuisances. Abandoned houses & buildings, junk vehicles, brush, garbage, junk and litter will all become a new focus of enforcement efforts.
Anyone that receives a Notice of Violation will be given every opportunity to clean it up themselves. If that doesn’t work, the next level involves official citations, court appearances and abatement by the city. If the City of Bellmead is forced to clean up a mess, a lien will be filed against the property.
Long Story Short: Take care of your property. Clean up your property. Be a good neighbor.
