The Bellmead Police Department is currently investigating an alcohol-related vehicle crash that tragically resulted in the death of Dennis Welch, a 67-year-old bicyclist, on July 14, 2024. The driver of the vehicle, a 14-year-old, has been detained and charged. At the time of the fatal crash, a 10-year-old was also a passenger in the vehicle. Further investigation led to the arrest of Erika Ramirez Martinz, 40, of Bellmead. Martinez faces two counts of Endangering a Child, both State Jail Felonies, and one count of Criminally Negligent Homicide, a State Jail Felony. Also, Lisett Andrea Najera, 22, of Bellmead, has been charged with one count of Contributing Alcohol to a Minor, a Class A Misdemeanor. The Bellmead Police Department continues to conduct a thorough investigation into this tragic incident. We extend our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased.
