Bellmead Proclaims National Peace Officers Memorial Day and National Police Week 2024

Mayor Jasmine Neal and the Bellmead City Council declared May 15th as National Peace Officers Memorial Day, marking the beginning of National Police Week. This annual observance pays tribute to the local, state, and federal peace officers who have sacrificed their lives, or sustained disabling injuries, in the line of duty.

This tradition, initiated by Congress on October 1, 1962, and sanctioned by President John F. Kennedy, honors these brave men and women on May 15th each year. The week-long observance serves as a reminder of the critical role peace officers play in maintaining public safety and combating crime and terrorism across our nation.

The proclamation was presented to Police Chief Shawn Myatt by Mayor Neal, acknowledging the profound gratitude and respect these officers command through their patriotic service and dedication.

This proclamation reaffirms Bellmead's deep appreciation for its peace officers and their crucial role in ensuring a safe and peaceful community.
