Healthcare
The health care sector stands out as the strongest growth area in Central Texas.
Our Health Care target encompasses two key niches: medical services and medical equipment. Medical services span hospital care, ambulatory health care services (such as practitioner offices), and nursing and residential care facilities. The medical equipment niche presents opportunities to support medical services and cater to health care consumers.
In Central Texas, the medical sector is experiencing remarkable growth, boasting a $330 million expansion since 2005. Health and education employment has surged, now constituting 18 percent of the local economy.
This diverse sector is anchored by accredited hospitals with extensive clinic networks. Notably, the top-rated University of Texas family practice residency at the Family Health Center and the Central Texas Veterans Administration Health Center.
Strategically located within 200 miles of the majority of Texas’ major medical centers, the Central Texas health care sector includes prominent players such as pharmaceutical giant Allergan and medical education product manufacturer Gaumard Scientific. This thriving sector is further supported by a robust base of wholesale and service firms. Approximately 50 percent of a hospital’s cost is attributed to labor, and about 20 percent to supplies, making Bellmead an ideal location for the manufacturing and distribution of health-related products.
The two non-profit acute-care hospitals in Waco, Providence Healthcare Network and Baylor Scott & White Medical Center Hillcrest, stand as two of the top five employers in the region. Explore the opportunities and dynamic growth within Central Texas’s flourishing health care sector.
